Bold in the Face of Adversity
What happens when doing the right thing costs us something? In Acts 4, we find Peter and John standing before the very council that sent Jesus to be crucified, on trial not for wrongdoing but for healing a man and proclaiming the resurrection. The passage forces us to wrestle with a question that cuts to the heart of our faith: are we willing to be bold even when boldness comes with a price? The early church did not grow in spite of opposition but alongside it, and that tension is deeply relevant to our own lives. When we speak truth at work, stand apart from the crowd, or share our story in a vulnerable moment, we may not receive applause. We may lose something. But this passage shows us that Spirit-filled boldness has a ripple effect far beyond what we can see in the moment. The number of believers grew from 3,000 to 5,000 not during a season of ease but during a season of pressure. That is not a coincidence. It is an invitation for us to reconsider what we are willing to risk for the sake of the gospel.
